Confirmed: Microsoft brutally Kills Courier
Tears are streaming down the eyes of geeks everywhere as Microsoft confirms they have killed off the courier - but what is shocking is that Courier was innitially planned to be a viable device to be sold to the public, and Microsoft was seriously thinking about doing so. The fact is that Microsoft has Officially destroyed any hopes of a Microsoft Tablet and broken our hearts - Official Quote after the break!
At any given time, across any of our business groups, there are new ideas being investigated, tested, and incubated. It’s in Microsoft’s DNA to continually develop and incubate new technologies to foster productivity and creativity. The “Courier” project is an example of this type of effort and its technologies will be evaluated for use in future Microsoft offerings, but we have no plans to build such a device at this time - Frank Shaw, Microsoft’s VP of communications
As tradgic as this is, there are quite a few questions to be asked - “Was this thing really real, and working?, Was there plans to launch it?, Was there ever plans for production?” and not many have been answered, but there are a few things to be pointed out. The Courier did indeed start life as a very potential new product category for the company.
But then, word was heard, trickling down through a couple of of people that very recently the incubation period had reached the point of conclusion - There will be no Courier. Those renders will remain CGI renders forever, and the Courier will remain one of the biggest holes in geeks’ hearts, but the true question lies, “is this the end of tablets for Microsoft?”. Me personally, I say no, this is not the end.
