Do you wonder how fast the Internet is at Google?
When it comes to “the internet”, you can’t help but have Google pop into your head. They are the worlds largest internet presence, and they do everything to be the best at… well… everything. Maps, Operating Systems, Voice, Browsers, Video sharing, and oh yeah, search. But what makes Google a really awesome company is how fast their office internet is.
In the US, the average speed for the entire country is 10Mb/s. In Europe it’s 12Mb/s and in Korea it’s a whopping 33.45Mb/s so there’s obviously a huge gap between the US and Korea. The reason the US doesn’t look that bad on the world internet statistics might be because of Google.
The Google Chrome team decided to head over to Reddit to get some ideas and suggestions from the community and answer some questions. It started off with banter over the new Google Chrome logo and some idea swapping between Reddit and the Google Chrome team. After a good 50 or so comments, someone asked the question that was waiting to be asked, “How fast is the internet at Google?”. One of the team members replied “I tried to make a Speedtest pic, but it ran out of real numbers,” so it was assumed that they had an internet connection beyond hat we could imagine.
After a persistant plea from the Reddit community, a Google employee out in the SFO offices supplied a speed test (shown above) boasting a download speed of over 520Mb/s and an upload over 145Mb/s, and this sparked a slew of excitement. After everyone took in the awesomeness of the speed test, the employee hit them with a bomb shell, a real world sample of how fast their connection really is.
The Google employee supplied a screenshot of him downloading RIFT which is an 8.32GB game — but when you’re downloading it at 32MB/s, there’s really nothing to worry about. To throw in a real world example, downloading a movie 4GB in size would require only 2 minutes.
