DROID 2 Launching August 12th with Android 2.2, Star Wars Edition?

DROID 2 leaks have been spewing left and right these past couple of days. This pair of recent leaks is none less exciting compared to previous ones. First up, it seems that a Star Wars Edition with an R2-D2 (These aren’t the droids you’re looking for) printed on the back will be coming as soon as August 12 along with the normal black version. Is Verizon taking this whole DROID thing too far? This certainly isn’t the type of DROID we expected back when Motorola launched the first Android 2.1 device.
While we’re on the topic of firmware versions, let us mention that sources familiar with the matter have led us to believe that this device will ship with Android 2.2 pre-installed. This would make plenty of sense because DROID sliders have typically been unskinned in the past. So when are you actually going to announce the DROID 2, Verizon?
