EA leaving Steam - final nail in the coffin for Battlefield 3?
So if you haven’t heard, Battlefield 3 is going to be the best thing that will ever happen to mankind since the beginning of time (at least that’s what everyone is saying) and the Call of Duty team is scrambling to stay competitive with DICE and keep the Modern Warfare brand afloat. Battlefield 3 was going to be amazing, and it was going to put DICE on the map — but when something amazing is almost ready to be up for sale, greedy people want their non-exsistant piece.
Earlier this month, EA announced that some new DLC would be packed with Battlefield which sparked a boycott because the DLC would cost extra to people who didn’t pre-order. “The only reason EA wants to charge for certain content is to make money, and there will probably be little or no benefit to the games creators. This is another story of greedy people throwing their weight around to make money off other’s hard work. It isn’t right, and we shouldn’t take it.” — Me in an earlier article
EA pulls out of Steam - Games gone, Battlefield 3 doesn’t get a chance
Word has spread that Battlefield 3’s publisher, EA, has decided to stop using Steam for game distribution. So far, EA has pulled Crysis 2 and Alice: Madness Returns from Steam’s online store. This also means no new EA games will be coming to Steam, and there is a chance that older games from EA will be departing from Steam in the near future as well.
The saddest part about all of this is Battlefield 3’s story — a phenominal game with huge promise developed by the wonderful team at DICE, and the teams hard work is being treated like trash by EA — only a way for them to make money. This game was going to make it big, and it was going to give Call of Duty a real run for it’s money. Now, all we can do is hope for the best — maybe boycott EA for real this time…
