Facebook security hole lets you view your friends live chats
What’s the need for security on the internet these days? - Security seems to be the least of Facebooks worries because if they can let something like this slip, they were probably too busy working on something else to monitor the well being of our privacy. Facebook, get in the game or you are going to see people jumping off your island with their sanity tightly held in their arms.
Facebooks says sorry
For a limited period of time, a bug permitted some users’ chat messages and pending friend requests to be made visible to their friends by manipulating the “preview my profile” feature of Facebook privacy settings. When we received reports of the problem, our engineers promptly diagnosed it and temporarily disabled the chat function. We also pushed out a fix to take care of the visible friend requests which is now complete. Chat will be turned back on across the site shortly. We worked quickly to resolve this matter, ensuring that once the bug was reported to us, a solution was quickly found and implemented.
So, you worked “promptly” to resolve a problem, good for you - Has it ever come to mind that maybe you should be working “promptly” to stop stuff like this from happening? I should never have to worry about my very personal photos, videos and information ever when using a social networking site, responsible for the identities of 300+ million people.
One more screw up Facebook, and I am jumping ship. I cannot afford to have my personal info, photos and contacts, at the mercy of your stupidity. This is not a Social networking site, its a Social information farm, and Facebook, you are reeping the benifits at the cost of our privacy.
I will be seriously considering to leave Facebook (if I can ever figure out how to pry my account out of their hands).
