Gizmodo not Rolling in Money off iPhone 4G exclusive
Pictured above is Brian Lam, Gizmodo’s Editorial Director, and in front of him appears to be a mountain of cash. Now, this is just a photoshop representation of what Digital Inspiration is estimating Gizmodo made on all the traffic that was directed their way with their exclusive look at the prototype iPhone 4G, but the very real figure is somewhere around the $150,000 mark. Yeah, that’s a lot of green! But according to Gawker Media’s owner, Nick Denton, Gizmodo hasn’t made as much as a penny so far, but rather has only put them in the hole:
“There were no immediate revenue benefits whatsoever - in fact, only costs.”
And that’s not to mention the possible legal suit Apple might take against Gawker over the purchase of the prototype. Denton mentions that this could be the biggest tech scoop in history, but it could realistically come back to bite them in a big way if Steve Jobs gets angry… and you don’t want to see him angry — Deal with it!
