Google Handing Out Free Chrome OS Laptops and Nexus S's
No, we’re not kidding! Let’s start with the free Chrome OS laptops; As a part of their “Pilot Program,” Google is giving away a bunch of Cr-48 Chrome Notebooks to random Google users as a way to beta test the Chrome OS before release. All you have to do to get in on this is fill out a short form on their site and boom, you’re good to go. They will contact you and send a Chrome laptop over your way if they think you qualify! Speaking of “ChromeBooks,” let me tell you a bit about the CR-48 itself…
The Cr-48 is Google’s first @GoogleChrome OS laptop, designed specifically for this public beta. You will notice that it lacks any frills or branding of any kind. Upon seeing the image we were immediately reminded of Apple’s black MacBooks. A simplistic minimalistic casing embodies a 12” screen, a full sized keyboard, oversized trackpad, and a webcam. A Wi-Fi chip is included (duh), as well as a 3G chip for Verizon. It weighs in at 3.8 pounds, although I highly doubt much thought was put into this product aside from making it presentable enough to act as a test bed for Chrome OS. So don’t expect this to be anything what the final design will look like.
Moving onto the Nexus S giveaway - How do you get your hands on one from Google? Simple. Just go (right now) and follow their newly created Twitter account (@googlenexus) and eagerly await a new puzzle each morning. If you’re the first one to answer it correctly, you win a Nexus S!
Don’t worry though, it took a couple of hours for anyone to get today’s puzzle - which consisted of having to find the “treat” on the Nexus Phone YouTube channel . Turns out each letter of the answer, “Creampuff”, was part of the title of numerous hidden videos accessible only by clicking the Nexus S device in the “Introducing the Nexus S” video. Insane right? Well, use your newfound knowledge wisely and good luck!
