Hello ladies - Old Spice ads are actually most popular with dudes (ages 18-34)

Looks like the Old Spice man has his target demographic wrong. According to Youtube’s Audience Data on Old Spice’s latest commercial, the people who watched the videos most are: Males aged 25-34, Males aged 18-24 and Males aged 45-54. Even though he says “hello ladies” at the beginning of each ad, this a product for men right?

Why it’s okay mostly dudes watch the commercials

This is an advert for men, and even though it’s 30 seconds some dude trying to hit on our wives and girlfriends — men love these ads. They are funny, shareable and in the end we check out Old Spice’s stuff when we head out to Wal-mart for supplies.

This is the genious behind Old Spice’s advertising. They make it appear as if the Old Spice man is some heart-throb that millions of ladies fall face-first for — but in reality only 25% to 35% of the people who watch the ads are women — which is exactly what Old Spice wants.

As a tech blog, we have very little knowlege of what planning went into the Old Spice man’s character, or how he would attract millions of dudes to watch their ads when it appears it’s aimed at ladies — but we do know that this could be one of the best advertising efforts in history.

We mean, look at it — Old Spice’s target audience is males, and their commercials are made for ladies, but somehow they still get their target audience (males) to eat those ads up! It’s genious, but as a fellow dude — quit messin’ with my brain Old Spice!
