Itsy Mac app for Twitter is simplicity at its finest

After weeks of using the official Twitter app for Mac, it occured to me that I was spending way too much time messing around in the App rather than actually tweeting. I was flipping through useless searches and droning through trending topics like I had no other reason to exsist — and even though the Twitter app for Mac is fantastic (probably still the best), I wanted something more… or in this case, less.

The Itsy Bitsy Twitter app saves a crap ton of time

I remember using Twitter back in early 2008 — You logged on, typed letters into a box and wondered who would read it. It was really quite magical, and 3 years later the service has blossomed into a hub for everything happening in the world. You have trending topics, videos, photos and a fantastic search engine — plus you have all these cool Twitter apps for evey platform imaginable. It’s really democritised social media at its finest.

Sometimes it gets to be too much. I mean, I spend more time on Twitter than I should, and I really regret what I’ve done every time I get back to work. Well, I was browsing the Mac App store one day, and saw a neat little app at the very bottom of the social networking section. It was called “Itsy” and I had no clue what it was for. Turns out it’s a wicked awesome Twitter app that has saved me a bunch of time.

    What you get with Itsy

Well, what you don’t get is a Twitter app with a bunch of cool features. What you do get is a super slick, and minimalistic Twitter application that really celebrates the Twitter that exsisted years ago, without abandoning important features like photos, searches, DM’s and URL shortening.

Itsy is really all you need for every day Twitter sharing, and fun to boot. You can read the tweets in a nice, smooth stream, and @ reply’s are automatically added to the home screen. You can shorten URL’s, add photos, and even apply different themes (we are using one of the deault themes).

Another cool feature about Itsy is it’s designed for smaller screens. You can squish Itsy down to about 100px wide and keep it on the side of your screen while working away, even on a 15 inch Macbook screen. It’s also really fast — it’s much faster than other Twitter apps because there isn’t a lot to load; it’s pure simplicity and we love it.

    The Verdict

…and the icon doesn’t suck ;D Itsy isn’t at all a full featured Twitter app, and if you’re looking for stuff like multiple accounts, profile editing, or Twitter exclusive features you won’t find it here. On the flip side, if you’re looking for a 100% productive way to use Twitter, without losing must-have features Itsy is exactly what you need.
