Lockitron - Use your phone to lock or unlock doors... from anywhere!

The concept behind Lockitron is simple: install a nifty deadbolt on your existing door, whip out your phone and access the app to lock or unlock your door — presto, you’re in and out. It’s still in “beta” testing, so you can’t put in an order for the new fancy lock system just yet, but there’s a big chance that this might become a reality.

The guys behind Lockitron hope that this idea one day replaces keys altogether. At the moment however, the gameplan is to sell a near $300 wireless deadbolt, usb base stand w/ remote, and cables to consumers in hope of replacing ordinary ol’ key locks with a more convenient and secure system. The kit is currently being “tested” with trusted people familiar with the company, but they hope to one day ship worldwide. Lockitron is also web accessible, giving adminstrator’s the ability to grant permissions via texts or email, as well as locking or unlocking through the website or mobile app.

As seen in the video above, there’s also an NFC feature to enabled looks to lock or unlock with the swipe of your cell phone. Nifty, if I do say so myself.
