Microsoft - Kinect sells 1 Million Units in 10 Days
Gamers everywhere may have doubted motion controls, but Microsoft knew what they were doing from the start. Now a little over one week since its release, the Kinect has sold over 1 million units, which interestingly enough is a lot more than the total sales of the Wii after its first 8 days on the shelves, back in 2006 - 600,000 units. And even more interesting to note, is that back then people were throwing down $250 for a full on console, whereas the Kinect is a $150 peripheral to a console that people must already own.
In another comparison, it took Sony 1 month to ship 1 million Move units in North America (one unit consists of a Move Controller and PS3 Eye Toy).
And Microsoft doesn’t expect the sales to slow down either. Forecasts were originally set to 3 million units for the holiday season, but due to the positive response, Microsoft has bumped up their estimates to 5 million in anticipation of the Black Friday rush.
While it may not be a device to change the future, it’s a step in the right direction, in my opinion at least. Molyneux lied to us when he showed off Milo, but the cash that’s coming into Microsoft’s bank account couldn’t be more real.
