New Music Monday: Starting Six

The San Francisco Bay Area has been at the epicenter for creativity - This week starts off the next few weeks as we take a look at music coming from the Bay Area. Since the hip-hop Hyphy Movement started to die and was replaced by Southern California Jerk Movement, the music has been constantly changing. Music from underground artist have also been able to flourish thanks to the web. To kick off the Bay Area music experience, we are taking an exclusive look at the group Starting Six.

Starting Six is the perfect example of a Bay Area collaboration. The crew consist of well, six guys. Big Steve and Riggz from Richmond, Fess and NicNac from Berkley, Rybread from Oakland, and finally Greygoose from San Francisco. The group started off as just friends but decided to one day make a slapper(a word commonly used in the Bay Area to describe a good song). They figured it would just be something they could listen to and joke about. After making a music video for it during the summer, the song blew up on the internet.

Rybread says in their blog:

About a year ago we started the “Thirsty” movement only thinkin that it would become yet another Six slapper that would only be heard through our own personal car speakers. Knowin that we  had created something wild & rare and still needed to do something monumental for the summer, we decided that we would make a music video for our own personal collection( so that 20 years from now when we’re raisin our own pups we could look back and have proof that we use to know how to have fun). What makes this all so crazy though, is that the music we started out just making for fun, is now being heard by by people all over the world(no hype, go ask Italy bout the 6 lol).  And none of this would be possible without the incredible support of our growing fan base of the cooooolest people on earth, Folk who love havin’ fun.

Starting Six’s music is upbeat and fun. It’s a mix of sick beats, funny but good lyrics, and just having a good time, with some good music. The music video just makes you want to get up and go crazy with a bunch of your friends, with all those beats are created by NicNac using fruityloops. The group is unlike most artist in the area, they are all still in college all across California, and you might even see some at a party at San Diego State or Saint Marys.

The group doesn’t have an official album yet but is working on a mixtape, which will contain their first hit song “Thirsty”, which is is availabe on iTunes and is sure to please. They recently released their newest music video “Lookin’ For A Nut” which has been spreading like wildfire. I asked them where I could get the song and they said it would be availabe to download very soon which begs the question, will the mixtape be availabe too? What ever happens with the group, their future is very promising in the undeground music world - Remember to follow them @startingsix

Note: There is some questionable language, still a fun video!
