New Years bug glitching up iPhone alarms
I had stuff to do this morning, so last night I throw up an alarm on my iPhone. I wake up this morning and realize that my alarms hadn’t gone off and that it’s two hours past the time I was supposed to get up. What gives? Apparently, a New Years bug in the iOS firmware.
Engadget reports that non-recurring iPhone and iPod (no word on iPads) alarms are susceptible to this bug, and that if you’re looking to wake up tomorrow morning that you change your alarms to repeating. It’s not known for sure why this is happening besides speculation that iOS 4 has again run into some sort of issue with years and dates and the quadratic formula — y’know, science.
And 9to5Mac is testifying that this will all be good as gone once Jan. 3rd comes around. Tests have been run, they said, and the automatic fix comes in the day after tomorrow. Whether or not this will really happen is anyone’s guess but Apple is staying mum on the situation.
