NOCS NS200 Aluminum Headphones Review

Here at Okay Geek, we see headphones by the dozen. so it’s quite an occasion when we’re impressed by a specific pair. The NOCS NS200 Aluminum’s quickly caught our eye with it’s simplistic Swedish design, but how do they actually perform in the field?

NOCS NS200 Aluminum Earphones with Remote and Mic

Features

  • 8.6 mm dynamic drivers
  • 95 dB SPL sensitivity (at 1 kHz)
  • 16 Ohm impedance (at 1 kHz)
  • 20 Hz – 20 kHz frequency
  • Aluminum housing
  • Cord of Kevlar, copper, and TPE
  • Comes with extra silicone sleeves and pouch
  • 2 year warranty

Review

The NS200’s come packaged in a tastefully designed silver rectangular box, which opens to reveal a while foam tray with three packets, oddly reminiscient of how Apple used to pack in accessories with older iPods (5th generation and before). Aside from the packets labeled earphones and accessories (estra tips and a shirt clip), are the manual and a nice little cloth pouch.

Moving on to the design of the NS200 Aluminum’s, they are indeed quite simplistic and good looking. Pill shaped earbuds, constructed of aluminum and given a matte black finish, are cut off by bulbous silicone tips. An NOCS logo adorns the top of each earbud while the right/left marker can be found adjacent to the cord connector on the underside of each earbud. The connector is seamless but we worry about the possibility of breakage given the thinness of the cable in that region. The rest of the cable was fairly tangle free and felt decently sturdy. There aren’t that many distinguishable qualities about the headphones other than an extremely clean looking remote/mic module. It is properly situated so that the mic will be able to pick up your voice and the three circular buttons work just as you’d expect they would – up and down for volume, center button to pause, skip tracks, etc…

After a burn in period, audio quality felt crisp and bass was clean. Music sounded balanced and rich. Noise isolation worked pretty well although fit will all depend on the size of your ear canals. The earbuds may not feel as ergonomic as other headphones due to the shape though. We were pretty content with the NS200’s audio quality but felt that they could’ve been better. For the price, we didn’t have much to complain about though, given the fantastic quality of the headphones overall.

Overall

The NOCS NS200 Aluminum’s aren’t a pair of particularly impressive headphones sound-wise (we’ve seen better sounding headphones for less) but in terms of design, they are close to that of Apple, if not matching. The sturdy aluminum construction and sleek controls  only add to the overall value you’re getting with these ‘buds. All in all, the NOCS NS200’s are a pair of headphones we’d really recommend to those picky about headphones design and have stuck to using Apple’s crappy stock earbuds for this reason.

Pro’s

  • Sturdy construction
  • Simplistic styling
  • Decent audio quality

Con’s

  • Not very ergonomic

Price: $69
