PSN restoration begins -- Sony issues Presidential address and details
So all I have to do is make a successful gaming platform and then run it into the ground with an out-of-date security system, vulnerable to 4chan hackers, and I too can have an office overlooking the Tokyo landscape? Dude, I’m so on it. But while I go do that, here’s Kaz Hirai, President and CEO of SCEI, filling you in on all the recent details on when and how PSN will be rolling back into your homes, so you can finally get your shot at Portal 2’s Co-Op.
PSN has approximately been down for 3 weeks, the problem starting way back on April 22nd, but it looks like players can finally breath a sigh of relief — Sony’s gotcha covered, and they’re bringing their online platform back from the dead starting today.
According to Sony, the restoration will begin on a country by country basis, starting with the America’s, Europe, Australia, New Zealand and the Middle East.
The map above on Playstation’s Official US Blog will illuminate state by state as service as restored. The LIVE map is located — HERE.
Services to be restored:
- Sign-In for Playstation Network and Qriocity services
- Friends list, Chat functionality, Trophy comparison, and Playstation Home
- Online gameplay for PS3 and PSP
- Music Unlimited (PS3 / PC - subscription based)
- Netflix, Hulu, Vudu, MLB.tv
PS3 users will need to install a mandatory update (v3.61), requiring them to change their PSN and Qriocity passwords immediately.
A message from Sony Computer Entertainment International’s President and CEO, Kazuo Hirai:
So if you haven’t gone ahead and traded in you brick of an PS3 for an Xbox 360 already, you need not worry any more. You’ve waited 22 days for PSN to come back on, you can wait another few more hours.
