Qawker -- The new Gawker theme for Wordpress
The new Gawker theme that was released a few weeks ago hoped to bring new life to Gawker Media’s out-dated look. Gizmodo, LifeHacker, io9 and other Gawker properties subdued to the new design, and tried to make the best of it — but nothing could drown out the negativity over the new look.
After weeks of hate from readers, Gawker’s media properties have lost a large chunk of their visitors and are scrambling to make changes to the design before all hope is lost. This leads us only to one conclusion — why is there now a Gawker Wordpress theme?
You too can have the magic of Qawker!
Qwaker is an open source version of the new Gawker theme, and it was hand coded by Sahas Katta for use on Wordpress blogs. Sahas was asked if this would inflict on Gawker Media’s copywrite and he said that “Honestly don’t know. (I sure hope not.) I wrote all the CSS, HTML, PHP, and Javascript from complete scratch.”
In terms of copywrite, Gawker is sure to be watching this closely, mostly because the theme looks exactly like the new Gizmodo theme and it’s open source. We’re not sure how much of the theme was “hand-coded”, but it’s a fun project nevertheless.
