Rumor - iPad 3 with retina display shipping in February 2012
When the iPad 2 came out some were disappointed to hear that they wouldn’t be getting that delicious retina display screen, as seen on the iPhone 4. And it also sucked for those same people who went ahead and picked up the second generation Apple tablet only to read just a mere few weeks later that the next version of the iPad would indeed host a screen with retina display. Well, stop the presses since a rumor has come out that iPad 3 will not only feature that high resolution display, but also is just right around the corner.
There have been rumors circling production of the retina displays screens for months now, but we never really got a solid time frame on when to expect the device to be announced or hit shelves.
Well, it would appear that Business Insider has the scoop and it’s not too far off:
According to “several sources” the next iPad will launch in February, and it will sport a screen with double the resolution of the current model.
Gardner says, “there do not appear to be any significant technical hurdles remaining” to prevent a launch of a high-resolution iPad, despite rumors to the contrary.
The timing comes with no surprise, since it follows the annual model upgrades that Steve Jobs was so aptly known for. The original iPad was announced in January of 2010 and released subsequently that next April; and the iPad 2 was announced in March 2011 and launched a mere week later.
With insiders and sources believing that Apple has all the right pieces and gears moving in place, and also enough stock to meet demand, there’s nothing stopping the iPad 3 and its highly anticipated retina display, which would host a staggering 2048x1536 resolution. But the question arises: what will a first generation iPad cost? If there’s any telling from past Apple announcements, a lot more people will be getting an Apple tablet with price reductions soon to be on their way.
