iFrogz Fusion case for iPhone 4 / 4S review

So you spent anywhere from $99 to $849 for your shiny new iPhone 4 or 4S. At any given moment, no matter how careful you may be, that glass built rectangle of sexy can fall and shatter. So there’s absolutely no reason why you shouldn’t have a case to give it some extra protection in case it takes a spill. But we know you’re not made of money, and sometimes you don’t want to fork over $50 for a case that does the same job as a cheaper alternative. So here we are looking at the Fusion case by iFrogz, which doesn’t cost a fortune, feels great in the hand, and doesn’t look all that bad too.

    Features

    • Lightweight, shell design
    • Polycarbonate w/ faux-leather
    • Raised edges to protect screen when face down

    Our Impressions

Unlike many of the cases we review, the Fusion case by iFrogz doesn’t come with a ton of extras. No cleaning cloth, stickers, or anything else unless you pay a little more for an InvisibleShield screen protector.

The case itself is of the shell variety, meaning installation is quick and painless. Its interior backing holds a felt-like material that protects the glass on the rear of the iPhone from having to come directly into contact with just plastic — a nice addition. On the outside back cover of the Fusion you’ll notice this particular model’s choice of style, which is made out of a black faux-leather material that gives your hands that feeling of extra grip when holding it with a single hand.

Once your Fusion case is fitted nice and snug onto your 4 or 4S you’ll quickly realize  that it doesn’t add much gurth to the already thin iPhone, which is something we really enjoy. That being said, added along with its leather-like backing, operating your iPhone with just one hand is very comfortable and won’t feel wrong in the least.

One particular thing to note however, is that when placed face down onto a flat surface the Fusion case claims to ensure the glass screen of the iPhone won’t touch said surface using its two raised edges. In our case, the Fusion’s “raised” edges are hardly noticeable — yes, they are there but just by centimeter’s.

All ports, switches, speaker, and buttons have proper cutouts to give you all the access required without having to worry about whether your particular headphone jack will fit or not. And again, this goes perfect with the use of one hand typing since if you need to lock your phone, you can bring over your index finger and tap the button on top without much effort or discomfort.

    Overall

After using the Fusion case for over two weeks I think it’s safe to say that for what it is, a cheaper alternative to some of the more fancier cases you’ll find on the market, it does its job better than most. The case itself looks pretty darn good, especially with the faux-leather, though we could do without the tire tread look it’s going for.

    Pro’s

    • Offers easy access to all ports and plugs
    • Feels great in your hand
    • Protects glass backing with interior material

    Con’s

    • Raised edges are bare centimeters that don’t do much to protect iPhone screen
