Seesmic Look - Maybe the best Desktop Twitter app Ever

A lot of the trouble with Twitter is that it relies on 3rd party sources to give you an experience - because the website itself can be pretty boring for some! Think about it - Twitter.com has never been your main way of tweeting because it doesn’t offer URL shortening or other special goodies; it’s just a box to type in. I am afraid though that at the end of this review you may want to re-think the way you use Twitter, forever.

    Making a Tweet

It’s really the same as any other Twitter app and it’s just as easy, but somehow it feels “better”. I can’t explain it, but there is something that they have done here that no other Twitter app has even managed to touch on.

The “Compose Tweet” field is always within reach and it pushes out your tweet to the public really quick! They also have done something cool by integrating image uploading and URL shortening, which again is within reach all the time, and there is never a pop-up - it’s all within the app.

    Trending Topics

When you use Seesmic, sure you could scroll through trending topics, but why would you when you can watch them pop in and out in real time? A refreshing option for sure, and along with it you can click on one and see it whip out the real time tweets for you to view instantly. It really puts a spin on what Twitter is for, reading text and typing it, but way less boring.

    Finding stuff you like

To a lot of us Twitter is a scary world of masses of text and spam, so we usually try to stay within our homepage and followers. But what Seesmic does is take the concept of “Finding people to follow” and make it make sense. And to do this all I have to do is view some “Interests” in the menu bar, and drill down to what I am interested in. This presents me with a list of topics, and beyond that a feed of tweets based on what my interests are. Talk about a neat way to experience Twitter and find people to follow!

    Searching stuff I like

When you search something you see a list of Tweets. That is all I need, and that is all I want. Here, I searched “T3ch H3lp” and scrolled until I found the Tweet I wanted. It should never be more complicated than this.

If you want it to get a bit more fancy, though, you can click the “Visualization” button and watch your search results pop into view in real time - I like those words, real time.

    Viewing Profiles

Not only can you view a profile like you would on Twitter’s homepage, but on Seesmic’s their custom background image is added, and again, you can view their tweets in a neat visualization. There is also options to DM them, @reply, and Favorite which are always available on any page and can be used on any tweet you’d like. Profiles are also viewable just by clicking on the user’s avatar.

    The Verdict on Seesmic Look

Pros - Easy to use, Perfect Interface, Unique Features, Robust user profile integration and more

Cons - Supports only a Single Twitter account, Takes a little getting used to, Windows Only.

There are a lot of different Twitter apps for different people. If you like getting in and getting out, you’re probably using Twitteriffic or Blu. If you’re into managing huge amounts of Tweets and accounts, you’re probably using Tweet Deck.

If you need a change, I command you to go check out Seesmic Look and see what you have been missing out on. It’s a charming experience and you will find yourself consuming and enjoying more, and stressing less about making tweets. Best of all, it is free, downloadable, and does not require Adobe AIR.
