SGP Steinheil Anti-Fingerprint Screen Protector Review (for iPod Touch 4G)

Ever since the first iPod Touch was released to the public, it became a well known fact that these displays become scratched and dirtied up the moment you get your hands on them.Today we’ll be taking a look at the SGP Steinheil Anti-Fingerprint Screen Protector and seeing how that fairs in actual use.

The SGP Steinheil Screen Protector comes in a nice cardboard envelope covered with features and instructions for sticking on the film. Inside, you will find two screen protectors, a plastic squeegee card, and a micro fiber cloth. Application of the Steinheil Screen Protector is a joke. You don’t even need to touch the included squeege. Just peel the rigid protector off its plastic backing and plop it right onto your iPod Touch. This is the least amount of air bubbles we’ve ever seen applying a screen protector and the fact that it has a certain hardness to it only helps when trying to force out the tiny air pockets that do end up getting caught under the film.

All holes are precisely cut out so you won’t have any trouble aligning the screen protector or during use. Furthermore, the size is just right so that the entire screen is covered. The finish on the Anti-Fingerprint Screen Protector is a gorgeous matte that feels incredibly smooth to the touch. Our interactions with the UI were much more fluid and resistance was significantly reduced. Trackpad apps were ten times easier to use due to this. The screen protector itself feels high quality and gives the iPod a much classier look. As with most matte screen protectors, the display will appear less clear than you would have found it using a clear screen protector or none at all. The upside to a matte finish is much better glare reduction. I’ll have to admit, items such as text on the screen were not as clear as they were previously but for the most part, it wasn’t anything too drastic.

How does the anti-fingerprint aspect perform? Wonderfully, you’ll find not needing to wipe off your iPod every 5 seconds to see the screen properly. The texture and premium finish of the protector will defend your precious display against the nastiest of fingerprint marks. However, some light smudging may occur on the surface over time, which will simply require a quick wipe.

    Overall

All in all, the SGP Steinheil Anti-Fingerprint is one of the best rigid screen protectors we’ve ever used. However, it is not something we can recommend to every iPod Touch owner out there due to its matte finish. This is simply a matter of personal preference so if you are a fan of this type of coating, we strongly recommend taking a look at this screen protector.
