SGP Ultra Thin Vivid Series Reventon Yellow case for iPhone 4 / 4S review
It’s been duly noted that we aren’t fans of silicone based iPhone cases. But I mean, if you’re on a budget and don’t mind throwing any old thing on your $400+ Apple investment then go right ahead, but we’re not that kind. That being said, this week we’ll be taking a look at the Ultra Thin Vivid series case by SGP, provided to us again by the fine folks over at the CreTouch Store. Let’s preface this review by saying we have a lot more positives to mention in this article than in our last encounter with SGP. — More after the break!
Features
- Made out of durable polycarbonate material
- Snaps easy to install
- All ports, buttons, and switches are uncovered and accessibly
- Packaged with lots of goodies: (screen film, Apple logo protector film, LED flash diffused reflection protectors)
Our Impressions
The packaging is the same as the former SGP case, but this time even filled up even further with extra goodies. Atop the already included Steinheil Ultra Crystal screen film (which I dig very much!), as well as the microfiber cleaning cloth, you are also gifted with an Apple logo protector film, and a 10 pack of LED flash diffused reflection protectors. Alright, so you’re asking yourself, “what are these protectors?” Well, to put it blunty, neither do we. However, the product page explains that they prevent light particles from the LED flash when taking a picture from getting into the camera lens, thereinby reducing the amount of white light taking over any given photo.
Now onto the case itself; installation is pretty easy. You simply slide your iPhone gently into the case and then when you hear the clicks on both sides you know you’re all set. The exterior is made out of a glossy polycarbonate material that doesn’t bend easily — meaning it’s durable. We’ve been using this particular model for about two weeks now and we’ve yet to see any scratches or visible damage to the case in any way whatsoever. The edges of the case are rounded, with a similar style going for the rounded open areas for the ports and buttons.
Our only issue with the case itself is the inability to remove it seamlessly. It takes a bit of effort to uninstall, even if you do it correctly — which is about pushing the backside of it forward while
All ports, volume buttons, and switches are all easily and comfortably accessible. Unlike our last experience with the silicone made SGP case that covered over the volume buttons with rubber tops, this Ultra Thin Vivid series case has cut outs for all the approriate areas. And when holding the phone in one hand it’s easy to lock your phone, adjust the volume, or switch your phone to vibrate. The top of the case doesn’t have a cut out but is rather left open, which is something that we prefer seeing as there are many headphone jacks that don’t fit in recessed ports on some cases. The same approach of openess is given to the bottom of the case as well, so the iPhone’s speakers are not given ports but rather allow audio to flow out freely. The only non-accessible port is the one for the Micro-SIM, which shouldn’t be an issue as those aren’t taken out often, if not ever.
On the rear of the case, the Apple logo is given its own open area in the shape of a circle. The provided Apple logo protection film comes in handy here, as you can ensure that the Apple stamp is never damaged or scratched. And also on the back is the cut-out for the rear-facing camera and LED flash. Both openings on the back are perfectly placed, with no worry to whether or not your phone will fit into this case and function as it should or not.
Overall
The Ultra Thin Vivid series by SGP is a complimentary case for any iPhone 4 / 4S. You get all-over protection; no worry for the glass backing to find itself covered in scratches. The case is durable and should last for the long-haul, especially with us finding not a single scratch or even a sign of wear and tear within the two weeks we used it so far. Installing it is a breeze, but removing it can be a bit of a pain. You get a ton of extra’s to go along with this purchase, which makes it a heck of a deal, especially when you get a Steinheil film protector for your screen — a must have to keep that retina display clean of any noticeable scratches.
- Constructed of durable, glossy finished polycarbonate
