Siri hacked to work on iPhone 4 and iPod touch
The iPhone 4S may be twice as fast as its predecessor and also feature a pretty sweet camera, capable of shooting at 1080p resolutions, but the reason why anyone was really convinced to fork over the extra cash for the new handset was the introduction of the Siri voice-activated personal assistant app. But why is it that it was only available for the 4S when technically it could run on the current iPhone 4? Well, someone decided to test out this theory, and you can guess the results.
A kind gentleman named Steve Troughten-Smith, who works at High Caffeine Content, shared the following video with 9to5mac, containing the results of hacking and tinkering to get Siri working on not only the iPhone 4, but also on a 4th Gen iPod touch:
Okay, great! Siri on the iPhone 4! Sooooo, ummmm, when can I get that working on my own, and by extension everyone reading this, iPhone 4?
“At this point it’s all about confirming this works across devices, making it reproducible (we got it working on two devices today), and documenting everything. It does require files from an iPhone 4S which aren’t ours to distribute, and it also requires a validation token from the iPhone 4S that has to be pulled live from a jailbroken iPhone 4S, and it’s about a 20-step process right now.”
Yeah, so it may take a while before the hack comes to you and me. But hey, at least we know it’s not a matter of if, but when.
