Solare Flex desk lamp by Cielux review

Desk lamps are a dime dozen, just go to Walmart or your nearest department store and you’ll find a ton of varieties for all kinds of purposes. But finding that right one for your office space or even pc gaming needs can prove a tiring excursion. Getting work done, whether checking email or taking down dragons in Skyrim, requires your eyes to be fatigue free — something that can be remedied with the proper lighting. So what exactly can fill that void? This is where we found ourselves in the ultimate search that eventually led us to the Solare Flex by Cielux.

Features

  • Only consumes 13 Watts of energy
  • LED lamp means no bulbs to replace
  • Offers three different LED color “temperatures”
  • 27.5” tall w/ flexible gooseneck design

Our Impressions

The first thing that drew us to it was its clean and modern design. While it may not feature the most unique look it certainly separates itself from the pack without the need of a bulb. And that’s where we begin this review. What makes the Solare Flex different is the ring at the top that houses an LED lamp that can manually be toggled to three different temperature colors and intensities.

The base of the lamp hosts a touch-sensitive pad that controls all the options available to you. Simply touch the pad once to turn it on, and touch it again to change color temperatures. You have three choices (3200K, 4600K and 6000K) — which equate to what we’d describe as the colors that  different flourescent and incandescent bulbs might give off, without the need of an actual bulb. And for you power-savers out there, you’ll be happy to know that this powerful, convenient LED lamp gives off a mere 13 watts during use.

To change the intensity, or brightness of each temperature, all you must do is hold your fingers on the touch pad for just about a half second to dim it down a notch. Every temperature has a high, medium, and low setting, again controlled by holding down the touch pad to switch between the three. To turn off the lamp, simply hold down on the touch pad until the light is dimmed to off.

As with most desk lamps you’re probably going to want to swivel the neck around, and the Solare Flex does that with ease. The gooseneck design lets you point the LED lamp to any direction that’s necessary, and with it standing at over two feet there’s virtually nothing you’re working on that this chic, desk lamp can’t brighten up.

The only issue one might have with this lamp is its price, seeing as it retails on Amazon for a cool $200 smackers. For the value of not having to buy light bulbs it’s pretty hard to recommend based on that argument alone. Cielux is a designer brand for those who want a little more care and thought put into their lighting products — just look at the Lune for example. That being said, if you’ve got the cash and need a desk lamp to complete your workspace at home or your office then there’s nothing better you could get than the Solare Flex.

The Solare Flex also comes in a style of 3 colors; Black, Silver, and White.

Overall

All in all, Cielux sure knows how to turn a traditional design into something that can be more practical than anything else available on the market. And while the very simple idea of light may not justify the price tag, if you’ve got the cash to spend and need a versatile desk lamp that will accentuate your modern workspace then why not go the Solare Flex route? You have no reason not to.
