Square Enix announces Final Fantasy XIII-2 and unveils Final Fantasy Versus XIII with trailers
Earlier this morning, Square Enix gave proper reveals and gameplay trailers to some of its most anticipated titles; Final Fantasy Versus XIII and Kingdom Hearts 3D. They also surprised pretty much everyone by announcing a direct sequel to the less than spectacular FFXIII, with Final Fantasy XIII-2.
Final Fantasy XIII-2 gives off the impression that it’s trying to reinvent itself. I mean, did you see Lightning’s new get-up? Very Final Fantasy Tactics if you ask me. Are you sure we aren’t in Ivalice? I’m fine with all this though, as long as SE remedies much of the problems we faced in the original title; such as a hand holding tutorial phase, dungeons without any routes to deviate from, and a lack of side-quests
Final Fantasy XIII-2 is due out this year in Japan, and “next winter” in the US and EU. It will be launched on both Xbox 360 and PS3.
Final Fantasy Versus XIII on the other hand has become the poster child for what fans are calling the “true” Final Fantasy XIII experience we were promised. In this 6 minute trailer, we finally get an extensive look into the Kingdom Hearts styled gameplay that we’ve only been teased with until now. Just sit back and enjoy.
Final Fantasy Versus XIII is still a PS3 exclusive and its release date is still TBA.
