Students get a free Xbox 360 with a $699 PC purchase
When you think about it, some of the toughest decisions happen in highschool and college, but when it comes to buying an Xbox 360 or a PC things get complicated. You could buy a $700 PC and have a decent platform to start playing 3 year old games, or buy a $300 Xbox 360, have some spare cash for books and food but miss out on having your own computer… to the library for you! When money is tight, this can be a make or break decision, but what if Microsoft helped you out?
Why Microsoft is really doing this deal
Yup, that darned new fangled gadget from Apple has been nipping at the heels of PC sales (mostly laptops) and Microsoft is getting a little worried that they may not be doing so hot — I mean, people are foaming at the mouth for the iPad 2, and a PC laptop these days isn’t bringing the “new hotness” factor to the table.
Now, what if you were given the option to get a decent PC Laptop or Desktop and be able to snag a free Xbox 360? That’s a pretty sweet deal, and not only does it help Microsoft breath life into their stale PC market, it will no doubt sky rocket Xbox 360 household adoption rate.
This all sounds good, but here is another point of interest. Nintendo is annoucning a new console during E3, and Microsoft needs to announce something quick. When a company announces something new, everyone ignores the old until the new hotness arrives, but why ignore something that’s free? This is a great move by Microsoft.
