TasteBuds.fm - Social networking and dating service all based around your music tastes

When it comes to searching for your significant other or even just looking for some cool cats to chill with, the most important part seems to be your likes and dislikes. And what tells you more about a person than their taste in music? TasteBuds.fm is the social network / dating service for those whose music preferences speak louder than any status update ever could.

The Facebook of Music

After first signing up from scratch or with your Facebook connect login, you’ll get the chance to list off all the artists you enjoy — the more the better since these are going to help match you up with others who have similar tastes in music. Once you’ve thoroughly added a profile image, finished typing up a small blurb about yourself, and adding a location, you’ll be set to sift through all your matches — through location, gender, and age.

You may be surprised to see that your landing page looks a lot like Facebook’s, with status updates being presented in a list order, but this is good. These updates can be anything from what the person is thinking or at the moment, or perhaps they’ve added artists and music events to their profiles.

The Human element in Music discovery

And with the ability to send messages with each other, you can keep the lines of communication open with tons of people who just want to sit back and enjoy the music. In fact, since TasteBuds just launched less than a month ago its current membrship is quite small when compared to other services, and for that reason the community feels a lot more tight knit.

But let’s not forget the music. Let’s say you aren’t interested in the social network aspect of the site and all you want to do is use Tastebuds as a means to discover new tunes. Well, we all know that Pandora and Last.Fm are able to use your music selection and create playlists based off what you already like, however they’re missing the human element. With TasteBuds you’ll see what I’m talking about when you go to a person’s profile page and view the artists they’ve listed and see the connection between the types they are into and you’re into. And here’s where it gets interesting; you can click on any of their artists’ icons, which will in effect, begin playing a song right within the page of that current artist selected.

Give it a listen

All in all, TasteBuds offers a clean, fun, and user-friendly experience in which other sites (I’m looking at you Last.fm) could take a lesson from. The service is free and the potential for meeting fellow fans of the music you love, as well as finding something new to listen to is quite high.
