Logitech Anywhere Mouse MX review
Logitech make some of the greatest mice known to man. The great thing is that they are constantly innovating and doing research to figure out how to improve their mice. The Anywhere Mouse MX combines some of their best technologies - Darkfield sensor, Unifying receiver, Hyperscroll - and packs them into a compact but ergonomic package.
Features
- Darkfield Laser Tracking
- Unifying receiver
- Compact, sculpted shape
- Hyper-fast scrolling
Our Impressions
The Anywhere Mouse comes packaged in a typical Logitech green box. You get the mouse, the Unifying receiver, a pouch, 2 AA batteries, and a stack of manuals.
The mouse itself is especially slick and comprises of some top notch materials. Most of the mouse has a soft touch finish while the sides feature rubber grips. A strip of metal houses the scroll wheel, a shortcut key, and an indicator light. On the underside of the mouse, you’ll 4 small feet - one for each corner. The massive battery cover has a rectangular area which slides to turn the mouse on and off, as well as to cover the laser when not in use. The compartment allows you to store the receiver as well as two AA batteries. Since the mouse uses two AA batteries, it does have a good amount of heft to it and feels quite substantial for its size.
Setup was simple enough. We already had a ton of Logitech receivers plugged into our USB hub so we just fired up the Unifying software and connected our new mouse. Don’t have an existing Logitech product? Your experience should be equally as painless.
While seemingly ambidextrous, the mouse is actually tailored to right hand users given the placement of the side buttons, both of which are decently sized and give a decent amount of feedback. The left and right click buttons feel quite solid and tactile to the touch. Although the Anywhere Mouse is quite flat, it’s pretty ergonomic and comfortable to hold. At first, I was under the impression my scroll wheel was defective when I clicked down on it and it sunk a bit. I gave the wheel a push and voilà, there was the epic Hyperscroll feature I’d grown to love on Logitech mice. While we’re on the topic of the scroll wheel, I’d like to mention that it is of the same great metal used on previous generation of the company’s mice, unlike the Marathon Mouse M705 which we reviewed.
Of course, the laser is the highlight feature of the mouse. So does it work? We tested on a plethora of surfaces including glass and the Anywhere Mouse truly lives up to its name. While this seeems like “just another feature,” we believe this is one feature that will actually help us in our day to day use. Since the Anywhere Mouse MX is marketed as a notebook mouse, people will be toting it around with their laptops and as a result, might not have a decent surface to use it on.
Overall
The Anywhere Mouse MX is positioned as the “VX Revolution” of Logitech’s current lineup (The Performance Mouse MX is the successor to the MX Revolution). It lets laptop users take the Performance Mouse’s features on the go and is fairly satisfying in that respect. Personally, I’ve gone from the VX Revolution to the Marathon Mouse M705 and back. After taking the Anywhere Mouse MX for a spin, I think this may be my new mouse for a long time.
