Top Five Apps on the Mac App Store
The Mac App Store was released a couple days ago, and while there hasn’t been anything absolutely amazing released quite yet, many of the classic games and favorable apps we’ve talked about on T3ch H3lp have been ported over in beautiful HD.
Yes, that’s right, Twitter has come in as my number one application on the Mac App Store. It’s a replication of Tweetie except a lot slicker, faster, and includes more features — and best of all, it’s free. It has a constantly updating feed and contains all the same features of the official Twitter app on iPhone and iPad but this time put on the Mac. Click on anything and the app provides a smooth flowing animation that just gives you what you want, and as with most Apple-ish products or services, it works. Overall, it’s hands down, by far, the best Twitter application out there. However, it doesn’t suit hardcore users who are accustomed programs like Tweetdeck but it does work, and makes the casual Twitter experience fun.
Evernote
Another free application, Evernote is the king of memory. Evernote on the Mac App Store is no different than it is from its website, with the exception that you can now have it on your Apple desktop. Collborating, sharing docs, and keeping track of what’s needed to be done has never been simpler than with Evernote. It’s our pick for the best Productivity app on the Mac App Store to date. — Our review of the latest version of Evernote can be found here.
Pixelmator
An image editor that feels like the intersection of where Gimp and Photoshop meet, Pixelmator takes all the features we see in both programs and makes them noobie friendly. Easy to use tools and simplified controls certainly do not take away from the application, as it’s the very thing that turns this photo editor into an app that is a must download. It’s the perfect thing for anyone, even those who have no experience in photo editing — and at a price of $29.99, it’s a bargain!
The Incident
We’re going to step into the realm of games now, and start with The Incident — a favorite of ours ever since it originally hit the original app store! Not to our surprise, it is an exact replica of what we’ve seen before in the iPhone and iPad except with keyboard controls. However, other than that we’re sad to say that there’s not much else that’s changed. But I do predict that an updated version of the game will allow you to control your character with your iPhone via bluetooth, which definitely would add a cool aspect to the game. Overall, it’s a great little game that they have ported over onto the Mac App Store, and can be downloaded for only $2.99. — Our review of the Incident on iPhone and iPad can be found here.
Flightcontrol HD
Flightcontrol is as relaxing and simplistic as a game can get, and it’s great to see its addictive gameplay and fun, calming experience has been ported over onto the Mac. There are no differences in terms of how this app works against its other iOS counterparts, with exception to its controls, which work best with a mouse and not with the trackpad, but both are capable and usable. The game can be downloaded for $4.99, but it’s a nice investment just to see it all in wonderful HD.
Interesting to note however, is that the game’s parent company is Firemint, which leads me to believe that Real Racing could also be making its way to the Mac App Store soon.
