Uncharted 3 will require PSN pass for players to hop onto multiplayer
It looks like anyone who decides to wait for a used copy of Uncharted 3 will be subjected to paying the $10 for the PSN Pass to play online. This is only the second game to use Sony’s new online gatekeeper system — the first being Resistance 3.
The Vault got the scoop from Sony Spain’s Software Manager, Juan Jimenez, who revealed that Uncharted 3 will be sporting the PSN Pass. Not any details were discussed about these plans but it makes sense considering the shift in the way console games fight used game sales:
TV: Are you going to continue the policy of Go Online in the future releases of PS3?
JJ: Yes. Online Pass continue to work with in order to tackle piracy.
TV: 3 Resistance Is the model to follow?
JJ: Of course yes.
TV: Uncharted 3 will therefore go online:
JJ: Yes.
As costs rise in game development, and more triple AAA titles become more delicate in becoming blockbusters, the industry has continued to find new ways to crack down on piracy and used games sales. Sony isn’t the only company to come up with something like this either — Mortal Kombat’s Kombat Pass was the exact measure taken by Time Warner and Nethreal Studios to ensure a steady flow of cash coming in even from used game sales.
