Verizon iPhone 4 sales falls short of the hype

The Verizon iPhone 4 has been one of the most talked about gadgets of the year, even thopugh it’s just a repurposed iPhone 4. Although everyone was talking about the new Verizon iPhone 4, the sales were a little less than amazing. Here’s a quick breakdown of the sales figures.

Verizon iPhone 4 sales breakdown

  • Thursday — Verizon = 909 — AT&T = 539
  • Friday — Verizon = 916 — AT&T = 680
  • Saturday — Verizon = 660 — AT&T = 471
  • Sunday — Verizon = 796 — AT&T = 701
  • Monday — Verizon = 711 — AT&T = 618

Above are some sales data for five different Apple retail stores during the Verizon iPhone launch. AT&T still managed to sell a passable amount, but Verizon wasn’t that far ahead, so overall it wasn’t mind-blowing. Online pre-orders for both Verizon and Apple added up to around 550,000 units, which was a little anti-climatic. We’re imagining the reason for this is people are waiting for the iPhone 5.

“30% of people buying Verizon iPhones were Android users, just over 25% of people buying iPhone 4 were BlackBerry users, and only 14% of people buying the Verizon iPhone were AT&T iPhone owners. The remaining percent didn’t want to say, didn’t have a smartphone, or didn’t have a phone prior to making their iPhone 4 purchases last week.”Jonathan, Geller, BGR

In the end, Apple is still selling iPhones at a steady pace, and the arrival of the iPhone 5 is sure to create a huge spike in sales figures, as iPhone launches usually do. Did you get a Verizon iPhone 4, or are you waiting for the iPhone 5?
