Verizon iPhone was February's best selling phone

It seems that every couple of weeks we hear of a new smartphone taking mass sales, selling out in an apocalyptic manner. But now, that level of absurdity has been taken to a new level. According to a recent report from research firm comScore, Verizon’s CDMA touting iPhone 4 was the most sold smartphone in the United States for the month of February. As stated in comScore’s report, the company surveyed over 30, 000 U.S. mobile subscribers; with the firm dubbing Verizon’s iPhone “the most acquired handset in the month of February.”

Due to the gross amount of sales from Verizon’s iPhone launch, Apple saw the greatest rise in sales, trumping companies such as LG, Motorola and RIM. Up 0.9%, the Cupertino based giant holds 7.5% of subscribers.

In addition to Apple’s hardware sales, comScore’s report states that Google’s Android operating system gained 7% of the market, pushing its number one status further with 33% of total marketshare. In close second RIM held onto 28.9% of the market, with Apple and Microsoft clocking in after at 25.2% and 7.7% marketshare respectively.

Interestingly enough, out of the 30, 000 people surveyed, it was determined by comScore that device manufacturer Samsung was leading the pack. The Korean OEM is at present the largest mobile phone manufacturer in the United States — with a whopping 24.8% of U.S. based cellular subscribers owning a Samsung branded phone.
