Waterfield VertiGo laptop messenger bag review

Hoisting your stuff around, either to and from school or work, is always a pain. But that doesn’t have to be the case when you have an elegant styled bag, with an equal amount of utility and practicality built in it. And that is the one thing we got out of SFbags’ Waterfield VertiGo messenger bag; while it looks great, it also gets the job done.

Features

  • Vertical style messenger bag
  • Adjustable strap seamed into the bag (no clips)
  • Interior and exterior pockets
  • Optional fitted laptop sleeve

Our Impressions

If you’re familiar with the Muzetto bag, which to us is a top of the line looking leather tote bag, also made by Waterfield, then you might say this is a budget version. The exterior is made out of a durable nylon material, made to protect your belongings from the elements, as well as the occasional wear and tear.

The vertical orientation implemented, rather than the usual mail-bag, horizontal look that you often see in so many messenger bags, should appeal to those carrying notebooks, drawing pads, or even the occasional iPad and Kindle.

On the interior pocket there are three deep pockets that can be used for whatever needs to travel along with you; chargers, cables, pencils, headphones, phones — you name it. Above the pockets is also an additional compartment made to hold business cards.

Around the pockets, the interior is lined with a yellow-ish, orange pattern that is both smooth and stylish. You won’t need to worry about any screens or devices getting damaged or scratched if they both back and forth within the bag.

The VertiGo comes in 4 different sizes, ranging from small to X-large, all dependent on the size of the notebook you might want to carry. And also has a number of colors (either patterned or leather) you can choose for the outside strip that houses the Waterfield brand name.

You can purchase an optional laptop sleeve that will turn you order into a “Mambo Combo” which will include the VertiGo bag, laptop sleeve, as well as an optional shoulder strap. The sleeve we received was simply just that, a sleeve… but don’t let that fool you. If you are going to be traveling along with a notebook computer then you’re going to absolutely need something that will make sure your lappy doesn’t jostle around as you move from place to place. Therefore we recommend going all in and getting the laptop sleeve if you plan to carry a computer around.

Overall

Don’t let the outside fool you — while it isn’t as fancy looking as the Muzetto it can definitely hold itself on its own. It has more of an industrial, urban look than the classic leather exterior, with just a zipper and a few pockets to hold your belongings as you go from place to place. What else could you ask for from a messenger bag?

Pro’s

  • Vertical orientation is a change of pace
  • Optional laptop sleeve nestles notebooks, no worry of moving around
  • Tough and durable materials keep foreign stuff out

Con’s

  • n/a
