What are your thoughts on Windows 8?

It’s out in the open and it’s the hottest topic on the tech scene with both praise and dismay running wild. Windows 8 is the latest and greatest from Microsoft, and so far things are looking up, but the general conscientious is very cloudy and it’s hard to understand the simple question being asked — Is Windows 8 the greatest thing Microsoft has made, or does it suck?

We think the reason why people haven’t been able to form an easy opinion is that nobody quite understands the hard reasoning behind the new OS, or any of it’s new functionalliaty. Now, don’t get us wrong, Windows 8 is truly wonderful at it’s core, but it seems as if there’s been too much “stuff” cake’d on top to see the gem it truly is. A great tablet companion and a workhorse desktop OS, all packed into one, which is a formula we figured wouldn’t work, but Microsoft managed to do something really special. We just don’t think it’s at a stage where it’s ready for the public to form an opinion, and that worries us — but what worries us more, is to wonder if Microsoft actually thinks it’s ready…

Some of our friends on Twitter

@jfm429 — I already tested it for security. it failed miserably - pwnd in less than two minutes by an amateur. :D

 — It does look promising. Let’s hope they don’t screw it up.

 — It’s just like Vista or Windows 7, a slight code advancement and a new interface on the same old stuff.

 — Too cluttered and not easy to use for parents and grand parents.

 — Early, but massive potential. A very bold move from MS.

What do you think?

Seriously, what are your thoughts on Windows 8? This is clearly a huge step for Microsoft, and recently they haven’t shown any kind of guaruntee they’ll succeed in the mobile/tablet world, but Windows 8 could be just the ticket. We really want to understand where our readers stand, because we don’t know what Windows 8 holds for Microsoft, but some of you might have an idea, or a different point of view.
