Amazing mockup of what a Metro Windows 8 could look like

Windows 8 development has been chugging along for quite a while now, and with new developer previews of the OS, things are looking a bit brighter every day, but being “good” isn’t enough. Windows 8 has gotta be the sexiest release to ever come out of Microsoft to hit the ground running, but in current developer previews, things still feel a bit Windows 7-ish. What could Windows 8 look like when it’s all said and done? We don’t know exactly, we sure hope it looks like this…

What are your thoughts on Windows 8?

It’s out in the open and it’s the hottest topic on the tech scene with both praise and dismay running wild. Windows 8 is the latest and greatest from Microsoft, and so far things are looking up, but the general conscientious is very cloudy and it’s hard to understand the simple question being asked — Is Windows 8 the greatest thing Microsoft has made, or does it suck?

Windows 8 Boot up (restart) time - Video

It looks as if Windows 8 brings a little more to the table when it comes to boot times. Obviously very quick on test machines, it looks as though even on a less powerful tablet the boot times for Windows 8 are much better than it’s predicessor Windows 7. Microsoft’s next iteration of their flagship OS continues to raise more questions than answers, but at least we know it runs fast!

Download the Windows 8 Pre-Beta Build now

Microsoft’s OS, while a dominating piece of software in the work place and around the world, has been losing traction with Apple’s simplistic iOS mobile operating system. Though iOS focuses more on mobile devices (iPod, iPhone, iPad) its core values rely on hiding all the files, folders, and application jargon that confuse so many casual users. So to compete Microsoft has adapted the sleek Mertro UI style seen on Windows Phone 7 handsets, as well as also giving people the option to work within the normal desktop and icon’s interface we’ve known for so long. So if you’re interested, MS is offering the Developer’s Pre-Beta build up for download for anyone willing to take the early plunge. — More after the break!

Windows 8 pre-beta demo - Very slick, fast and new, but does it make sense?

We don’t quite understand if this is Windows on a tablet, or Windows for a tablet. There’s a big difference between an operating system designed for a tablet and an OS just simply able to run on a tablet, and Microsoft is trying to offer the best of both worlds, but we’re not quite sure how much sense it makes.

Windows 8 Explorer will sport the pointless MS Office ribbon

How does Microsoft attept to streamline the Windows brand and try to catch up to Apple? By stepping in the wrong direction and giving people what they DON’T want! For those who have Microsoft Office 2010, do you use that “ribbon” where those huge icons appear as options above the main work area? Yeah, well I don’t either, which is why I stopped using word and reverted back to Open Office. Well, for all of you who hate that ribbon you’ll be pleased to know that MS plans to utilize it in the Windows 8 Explorer. — More after the break!

Windows 8 Hardware and Partner demos - Video

Read our roundup of Windows 8 — So Microsoft has shown us Windows 8, and yesterday they held a press conference to show off some of the hardware partners for their latest edition of Windows. Everything seems snappy and the HTML5 application support is awesome, but we’re still worried about that old-school Windows interface.
