Wii titles are the most popularly rented games at Redbox's

Earlier this year, Redbox took their video game rental service nationwide, which was only available in a handful of cities priorly, and with great success too! Want to know what console faired best? Well, it’s a no-brainer considering most redboxes are outsides supermarkets and other stores that families usually frequent. It’s at these kiosks where parents calm their kids down or “reward” them for not having a fit in front of the world with a quick game rental. Yep, yoiu guessed it: the Wii.

According to Redbox’s video game VP Joel Resnik, who recently disclosed 4 million game rentals in 2011 to Gamasutra, the Wii is significantly the more popular of the three home consoles all thanks to Redbox’s prime “casual” gaming audience.

“The Wii has the highest install base, and our consumer is a casual gamer, and they’ve responded very well.”

While the talk about the preference for Nintendo titles from their customers ended there, Resnik discussed the company’s gaming future on physical made-based rentals:

“Our company feels very comfortable with the life of DVD or Blu-ray and other physical media, and how long we believe physical media will live from a business perspective.

From the perspective of console-based gaming, physical media is the lion’s share of it. Download is the next most feasible business solution… but consumers look at Redbox as a physical media kiosk rental-driven solution. Until we have that base in place and are able to engage people that way, we’re not thinking about engaging them through any other model.

Are we interested in other business models? Absolutely.”

While they may be considering some new stuff in the future, it’s pretty certain that you won’t stop seeing mom’s taking their kids to rent New Super Mario Bros. Wii for the 10th million time the next time you need to buy some eggs or milk.
