Windows 8 public beta hitting the streets in February
Windows 8 is a curious little bugger. It’s stuck in this middle-aged crisis where it’s not sure yet what it wants to be. It’s got the makings of the popular Windows Phone Metro theme, and yet when you select many of the apps they open up in what appears to be good ol’ Windows 7. While the new direction is refreshing, it’s a little saddening to see Microsoft taking it only half way… if even that. But if you’re curious to see what it’s all about and missed out on the developer’s beta, you can expect to get your hands on it in February.
With CES just about a month away, it’s no doubt that Ballmer will be touting a lot of new features not yet seen in any previous released build. Microsoft knows that its intrigued many with the Metro design, but is it enough for people to abandon their pursuit for another iPad and get a tablet running Win 8?
Well, everyone will finally get the chance to see and touch the new operating system for themselves when Microsoft releases the public beta sometime in February of 2012.
I personally have been using Windows 8 since the developer beta first came out and it’s been a very welcome experience. It’s not a game-changer by any stretch of the imagination since it all it is is just a much faster, streamlined Windows 7 experience. But that in itself may just be what folks are looking for — though it doesn’t offer much for newcomers to the PC world, even if they’d be using a tablet.
