Xbox Live and Playstation Network get Rewards Programs
I remember when the 360 first came out with achievement points, and everyone thought they were going to be used as some sort of currency to buy things on Xbox Live’s marketplace. Fast forward nearly 5 years later and here we are just BARELY getting into any sort of a rewards program - and it doesn’t even include those pesky achievements you’ve worked so hard to get. Not only that, but Playstation is also getting into the rewarding mood with a program of their own, that interestingly enough includes quests!
Xbox live Rewards
Microsoft just kicked off the launch of their Rewards Program with a video hosted on Xbox Live done by Major Nelson — it can be seen here — explaining just how it all works and what you get back by participating. For those who sign up, by renewing your Gold subscription, taking part in monthly surveys, or just by watching movies on Netflix, you’ll rack up MS points that can be used toward anything in the Xbox Live or Zune Marketplace.
If you notice, most of the incentives are meant for new users to the Xbox Live service, but even long time members can find ways to nab up some digital money.

Playstation Rewards
At the moment the Playstation program is only open to those who have been invited into the Beta while it’s being tested, despite Sony saying it already launched in October. Those selected don’t get means to buy stuff, but instead get gifted avatars, themes, and Playstation Home content.
Quests are also a part of the mix, where users can play specific games or watch certain videos to gain experience toward attaining a Pro or Legendary status in the Rewards tier. What do you get for being told what to play and watch by Sony? Nothing, expect a special avatar that you can brag to friends for being Sony’s slave.
