Xbox Music coming later this fall, will probably replace Zune marketplace
During this year’s annual Microsoft Partner Conference, Steve Ballmer connected the dots on speculation on such things as Skype, Windows 8, and even an upcoming Cloud-Based ERP service. While all of this is pretty interesting stuff, what really caught my attention was the talk of Xbox Music coming to 360’s later this year.
The topic wasn’t discussed in-depthly but it was confirmed to be arriving later this fall. Speculation has it pegged as the successor, or replacement of sorts, to the Zune Marketplace that was released earlier last year for the system. In other words, the service will more than likely stay the same with a heavy inclusion of Kinect-based connectivity, but the name will change to reflect the passing of Microsoft’s wannabe iPod rival, the Zune — which died a slow, niche death earlier this year.
Ballmer mentioned that 11 million songs would be available for users to search through using the Kinect’s voice recognition feature. This will no doubt be part of Xbox’s annual Fall Update.
