You Can use Voice Dialing on a Locked iPhone 4
Things are just getting worse for the iPhone 4, and Apple should be flipping out at this point, but they aren’t (we haven’t heard a word from them). This blew our minds, and quite frankly scares us. You’ve always been able to use voice commands on a locked iPhone 4 without touching anything, and this is turned on by default! Heres how to mess with people’s phones, and how to prevent it from happening to you!
How to use voice commands on a locked iPhone 4
1. Obtain an iPhone 4 (preferably a personal enemy)
2. Hold down the home button until the voice prompt comes up
3. Speak clearly and call someone, or a number
4. Say something funny, and hang up quicky — run out of the room
NOTE: They’ll need to have left lock screen Voice Dialing on
This was noticed by a Buzz Out Loud listener
“Regarding the iOs security flaw discussed yesterday; I decided to try out the voice dialing feature of the phone, and low-and-behold, was able to use the voice commands even though the phone is locked and has a passcode. Seems a bit odd that anyone is able to take my locked phone and dial who ever they want just by speaking clearly” — Phil, Read more on BOL
How to stop this from happening to your phone
You need to turn off Lock screen Voice Dialing on your iPhone
1. Open iPhone settings, and select “general”
2. You will need to head over to “passcode lock”
3. Then select “Turn voice dial off” (at the bottom)
4. Enter your passcode, and it’s all fixed!
You will need to unlock your iPhone before using voice dial, but this is how it should have been from the beginning right? It seems rediculous that Apple would make this an “opt out” feature, but they did and it was a major mistake. Have fun messing with people’s phones!
