Nick Mahar - Google Wave Diary: Day 1

We all have seen our very our Ricardo Trejo's Google Wave Diaries over the past few weeks. I recently received my invite and i just wanted to write a little thing about it myself. For starters, even when i asked my friend's for an invite I had no clue what in the world it was but i knew since it was Google, it must be good. After watching some of Google's videos I understood the layout of the page but I was still like why in the world would i use this thing, what's the difference between this, email, and a Facebook status with comments?

In one respect it's much like a status update on Facebook where people can add comments and everyone can see it but wave is more private. Wave is basically a thread you send to all of your friends, co-workers, who ever you want to collaborate with, that updates everyone at the same time. Besides being private to specific people, you can share video, text files, almost everything in you wave much like email. So why would you need this you say? Say you send an email to 5 people and those five people respond to you, and you cc their messages to other people, and now you just have double or even triple the amounts of messages you had before. With Google wave you can have the responses to the email all in one spot for everyone to see, no need to cc anymore.

I really do think Google has opened the future and email as we know it today will be gone for sure. With Google wave being introduced, it's changing the game of communication in simple ways we will look back on and say how did we every live without this. I haven't really had any problems with my wave yet but some reports say it's slow or doesn't instantly update but I mean it is only beta. The iPhone app is reported to be extremely slow even on a 3GS but i noticed it wasn't produced by Google itself which is probably the problem. It's actually the same thing as opening Safari on your iPhone and going to the site.

All and all i'm very excited to see what new features Google puts into the beta before it goes live. Sadly I don't have anymore invites either, I distributed them to friends in less that 6 hours!
