Ubuntu vs Mac OSX vs Windows 7 - OpenGL Benchmark Comparison

These OS’s go back a while, especially in terms of people fighting over which one is better - well, you are about to find out which one is better at one thing, and a very important thing, OpenGL. With OpenGL being the leading cross-platform API, it’s the only way we’re going to be able to play the latest games running natively on Mac OS and Linux, but how will that experience stand up to the gaming king, Windows 7? How are these OS’s going to prove themselves, and are they viable gaming platforms out of the box? We all know this is fairly new territory for OS X and Ubuntu, but they do have a chance…

How HTML5 Could Finally Kill Flash Video On The Web

We all know that Adobe's Flash runs a lot of high tech sites, video players, and more. The problem, as most of us know, is that it takes a lot of processing power to run. This is partly the reason Apple doesn't have Flash player on the iPhone. With recent options like Microsoft's Silverlight and HTML5, Flash is arguably becoming the worst option you have to watch media. The real question for many companies, though, is that is Flash still the future or is HTML5 the answer? Many video hosting sites like YouTube and Vimeo are putting their money with the latter.

As of now the only problem with HTML5 is that it only works with a few browsers such as Safari and Chrome, but it does come in the h.264 format that's supported by all browsers. This is how you are able to watch YouTube videos from you cell phone or iPhone, and Apple nerds will be happy to hear about this move especially because of the terrible Flash performance on Mac OS X and Linux systems. I recently have had huge problems with Flash constantly crashing on my Mac while watching online videos, but thankfully if flash dies, I wouldn't have to wait for updates or worry about Flash crashing anymore. This may very be the death of Flash video in the making.

Nick Mahar - Google Wave Diary: Day 1

We all have seen our very our Ricardo Trejo's Google Wave Diaries over the past few weeks. I recently received my invite and i just wanted to write a little thing about it myself. For starters, even when i asked my friend's for an invite I had no clue what in the world it was but i knew since it was Google, it must be good. After watching some of Google's videos I understood the layout of the page but I was still like why in the world would i use this thing, what's the difference between this, email, and a Facebook status with comments?

OS Xbox Pro: Get Use Out of Your Old Xbox

Everyone has seen a Hackintosh, but this one is just too cool to miss. With the case of an old Xbox console, and as much power as a $4,500 Mac Pro, the specs on this thing are crazy: 2.93GHz Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550s paired with an NVIDIA GeForce 9800GT card, 8GB of RAM, a 16GB SSD, and four traditional hard disk drives (one each to boot Windows 7 and OS X) plus two 500GB 7,200rpm drives in a RAID0 array for video editing.

It took Will Urbina only $1,500 to build his OS Xbox Pro - this of course does not include manual labor, which for this project is plenty expensive. I must say I'm amazed and would love to get my hands on one of these!
