Wii Getting Black Boxes for Teen and Mature Games - Japan

Nintendo's Wii boxes have all been a default white color up until now, with the exception of New Super Mario Bros. Wii which sported the famous Mario red (and also received the elusive "Best All Time Box/Box Art Award" from your's truly). But Nintendo's country of origin wants to add another color into the mix; the color black. And it's purpose is much more than just for aesthetics. The first game to sport it will be Zangeki no Reginleiv, a game that plays host to some gorey giant slaying gameplay - not the sorta stuff made for kids. So from now on Nintendo will only being using these black boxes for games rated C (15+), D (17+), and Z (21+) in Japan, to give parents an extra layer to go through before deciding to buy that kind of games for their kids.

I think it's a great step, and more companies should join in on the movement. Sure, ratings are right in front of the boxes and have detailed descriptions in the back covers, but this new effort really takes all the work out of it and makes it ridiculously simple. It also adds a little class to collections of older gamers who may have thought the Wii's white was too wimpy; though, I myself have always been a fan of the simplistic white. I hope Reggie already has this planned out for the US because gawd knows we need it bad.
