Nintendo's Media Summit Cover Round Up
Nintendo just had their 2010 Media Summit in San Francisco and boy was there a ton of info! Most important of all the announcements were the final release dates to some of the most anticipated games of the year.
Nintendo started with the DS, stating that the DSi XL will launch in the US on March 28th for $189. Confirmed colors include wine, red and black.
Here's a comparison between the current DS Lite model and it's newer, bigger brother.
Right after that Nintendo sent another bang through the audience as the Super Mario Galaxy 2 release date was confirmed for May 23rd as well as an additional trailer which you can see here
Some of the other games that now have confirmed release dates are Sin and Punishment 2 which is releasing on June 7th, Mega Man 10 on March 1 (although it is unconfirmed that it will be a simultaneous release for all the consoles, I would assume that you could get your hands on it the same day on LIVE or PSN), among many other interesting titles.
Nintendo also had some very impressive figures to show off, with Dan Adelman, head of business development at Nintendo saying that 22 first-party and 54 third-party Wii titles have surpassed the 1 million sales mark. The DS also has a very impressive 45 first-party and 63 third-party games past the 1 million range. He also stated that the support for the virtual console will continue with over 500 games already on the service.
Moving on, any Monster Hunter fans thinking Monster Hunter Tri wasn't going to make it to North America can rest easy, Nintendo announced that the game would be releasing on April 20th (as detailed above) with an extra Classic Controller Pro Bundle which will come with, you guessed it!, a classic controller pro and a copy of the game. If your interested in Monster Hunter, Nintendo will be releasing a demo disc to Gamestop stores on March 8th.
Ubisoft and Nintendo also announced that Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands will also contain Prince of Persia: Classic which was the classic game made way back in 1992. Interestingly, this is exclusive to the Wii version of the game. It will be released on May 18th on Wii and DS or May 20th if you live in Europe.
Also, if you like Dragon Quest on the Wii, then your in luck, Nintendo and Square Enix announced that they will be releasing Dragon Quest IX "sometime in the summer" for North American fans. The game will be published by Nintendo with the two companies calling it a "unique partnership."
Finally, Nintendo also confirmed that Metroid: Other M will be releasing on June 27th in the US.
