Cammy Dunaway: No New Nintendo Hardware Coming Soon
Nintendo of America Marketing President, Cammy Dunaway, puts the rumors to sleep that a Wii 2 or Wii HD will be announced later this year at E3, or anytime soon for that matter:
"Even though our install base is at this point 5 million systems larger than the PS2's install base at the same point in its life cycle, it still has a lot of room to grow. If you think of the PS2, there was been about 50 million sold, Wii [is] close to 28 million sold. So that says to me that there's still a big audience out there we can still access with Wii...
That being said, part of Nintendo's heritage is to always to be looking at innovation and to start working on the next hardware as soon as we launch a platform. So we'll have it ready when the time is right."
She pretty much reiterates everything Reggie and Miyamoto have already said up until this point, and I agree with them that this is not a good time to be coming out with a new system. Nintendo has come up with a well crafted plan for the Wii; taking a hold of the casual market first, and letting the hardcore Nintendo loyalists wait on the side, knowing they would always be waiting for announcements like Metroid: Other M.
