Acai Twitter Spam - Twitter Passwords Compromised due to Gawker Hack
Can’t log into Twitter? Neither can we. Apparently those who used Twitter or Facebook Connect to sign into their Gawker accounts (Lifehacker, Gizmodo, Gawker, Kotaku, etc.) may have had their passwords compromised during the hack on Gawker.com’s user account database late Sunday afternoon. It’s recommended you change your passwords ASAP, even if you haven’t been affected as of the moment just as a precaution.
And the Twitter scare doesn’t end there; There’s a storm of spam tweets spreading quick over Twitter, and as Mashable and other sources are reporting, there’s suspicion that the attacks are being done over accounts whose passwords were affected during the Gawker hack. The group who’s taken responsibility for the original hack is known as Gnosis, but the current situation on Twitter doesn’t seem to be directly related to the group due to the fact that once Gnosis got hold of the 1.3 million Gawker user accounts, they released the information as a torrent for anyone to go ahead and download away.
Again, if you had a Gawker account it’s recommended you change your Twitter password ASAP.
