Analysts claim Motorola Xoom sales have been "disappointing"
Motorola’s Xoom has long been proclaimed as the first tablet capable of decimating Apple’s stronghold on the market, but since its release on Verizon in February, just how well has it performed at market? According to recent unofficial sales figures, consumers don’t seem to be showing much love for Motorola’s first foray into the tablet space.
As estimated by Deutsche Bank, reported via Business Insider, Motorola has only managed to procure 100,000 sales for their Android 3.0 aka Honeycomb slate. In line with Deutsche Bank’s report, analyst for Pacific Crest, James Faucette, claimed that Xoom sales “have been disappointing.”
Interestingly enough, when Motorola first unveiled their Honeycomb based tablet at the Consumer Electronics Show for 2011, it was held with much prestige. Most technology journalists and pundits believing that Apple’s gripe on the market may finally alleviate. The same opinion was expressed further at Mobile World Congress, with the device now making mass media headlines.
Alas in all instances it appears as though Motorola’s jump to tablet fandom might have been slightly premature. As the aforesaid data suggests, the Xoom appears to be sitting on the shelf, as consumer after consumer purchase Apple’s second generation iPad.
Currently analysts are estimating that Apple’s second generation tablet, the iPad 2, has reached sales figures between 350,000 and 400,000 devices. If such figures are correct, it would appear as though Motorola’s attempt to cut the Apple fasted noose have all but failed. According to the unofficial sales figures for each respective device, it would appear as though Apple is selling between 3 or 4 iPad 2s for every Motorola Xoom sold.
On the front line. In the trenches. Apple is still inflicting mass casualties.
