Breaking: Famitsu magazine leaks images of 2nd circle pad accessory for Nintendo 3DS - (Pictures)

Nintendo seems to be a hot mess these days; reeling back from their outrageously high-priced 3DS (which I bought launch night) with a price cut and subsequent Ambassador (apology) program for cheating people outta their money. Well, now reports that the rumored 2nd circle pad accessory has been proven true thanks to Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu, blowing the lid early off Nintendo’s pre-Tokyo Game Show event September 13th.

Being bundled alongside Monter Hunter Tri-G, a game which will probably blow the lid open on the 3DS much like a Pokemon title would, will be the first game to host the new 2nd circle pad accessory. The accessory, which is really a full scale adapter that enlarges the width and thickness of the 3DS, gives the current system dual sticks to work with. This opens up the opportunity for a whole new slew of titles to be developed for Nintendo’s system, which might result in a full-on redesign come next year when the firm will undoubtedly release a 3DS redux model.

This also might explain why the system has lacked a number of titles upto to this point, with developers being told of this new addition to the handheld and delaying games (like MGS: Snake Eater 3D and Resident Evil: Revelations).

It almost feels like we’re in the 90’s with all these peripherals and uncharacteristic business moves being executed left and right by Nintendo. It sorta feels like they’re second guessing themselves on a lot of decisions they made last year, and have gone with a whole new game plan on how to work in the handheld market — moving more towards a complete console experience on the go, rather than competing with the likes of Apple and its 99 cent titles.

More games and information on pricing, availablity, and what to expect from this new 3DS cradle / circle pad accessory will be divulged upon at Nintendo’s Pre-TGS show, which will be live-streamed.
