What happened to Microsoft? What MS should learn from Apple

This story is the brainchild of two heavyweight tech journalists, John C. Dvorak and Paul Thurrott - and is aimed at outlining the well being of Microsoft as a company. Paul’s view of the story is based on the view of what Microsoft can learn from the iPad, and why Microsoft needs to start focusing on selling an experience rather than a product. John’s part of the story is focused on the outlying fact that Microsoft is not a “Buzz machine” anymore, and now has become a money hoarding, behemoth of boring technoligies, and recycled ideas.

Xbox 360 Review - Metro 2033

New and innovative mechanics are a rarity these days. Metro 2033 could have been yet another post apocalyptic game with nothing to make itself stand out but it’s immersive world and utilization of an equipment and currency system help it stand out. Unfortunately, the combat and stealth mechanics are terrible, and while it brings down the experience significantly, the game still comes in with some very cool and new ideas to a genre that has room for much improvement after it’s been bogged down with so many titles of the same nature.

Gizmodo Leaks new Apple Employee - Video

After the iPhone 4 uproar, Gizmodo has the guts to leak out a new Apple employee - and it is done in much better taste. The guy who leaked this is (in the video) Greg Lowen, has decided to put a different spin on this leak. Instead of posting information about the people involved, and destroying their corporate future, and telling everyone to visit their Twitter, Flickr and Facebook accounts, he decided to stick to the product. What Gizmodo did with the iPhone 4 leak was completely uncalled for, and this is in much better taste - sticking to the actual product, thats all we wanted to know with the iPhone 4 leak! - video after the break!

Apple facing antitrust inquiry over iPhone developing restrictions

Apple’s risky decision to block third party developing tools, like flash, to have the ability to make iPhone apps has gotten every tech-enthusiast all hot and bothered, and has come back to bite Apple in the butt.

The Federal Trade Commission and the Department of Justice are currently contemplating over which agency should be tasked with a potential antitrust inquiry to be shot at Apple for those decisions.

This is going to make somewhat of an up-roar in the industry, and if this goes through, it will be a benefit for developers, probably allowing them to use third party tools to develop iPhone and iPad apps.

Apple is inching closer and closer to becoming a completely closed platform - not allowing third party anything, and herding everyone into the pen of a locked system. Since they are gaining huge amounts of power in the mobile market, they are leveraging it to be the top dog, and maybe eliminate the competition completely.

LA Games Conference 2010 Round Up

Hey gang, I was absent from the T3chH3lp HQ (our own little batcave, if you will) a couple of days last week because I was down in the city of Angles, Los Angeles, California, attending this year’s LA Games Conference. And while it’s no E3, it was an insightful look into what analysts and insiders are making of today’s current trends and patterns happening with the video games industry. And while before it was all about console sales and how to get those into the homes of more people, now it’s all about how can to facilitate and keep a hold of all the influx of new users the “gaming” structure as a whole has been able to garner. Senior Vice Presidents, General Managers, Research consultants, all of these guys for the big companies such as EA, Activision Blizzard, and Sony were on hand to try to put a definition as to what exactly constitutes a hit nowadays, and which blockbuster ideas are one hit wonders or permanent staples.

How to make iPad 3G run on T-Mobile

Well, somebody figured out how to use an iPad 3G on a T-Mobile $5.99/mo Data Plan - and somebody decided to show you how. A growing number of iPad 3G owners have been able to access their T-Mobile EDGE data network by cutting T-Mobile SIM cards down to the iPad’s MicroSIM size then inserting them into their device. Sounds like a Simple hack, maybe too simple, but one thing is for sure, it saves you money - Video after the break!

Exclusive - Halo: Reach Private Beta Review

One of the most anticipated games this year, Halo Reach - I was pretty lucky to get into the private beta before the public one goes down on the 3rd, and what’s funny is that not only have my friends been pissed off that I have it, but so have my fellow editors here at T3ch H3lp. In this exclusive first look, I’ll go fully in depth as to what the beta offers (so far), and what you can expect in this new edition to the Halo universe.
