Anti-Piracy ad Makes you Want to Pirate

Don't Copy That 2, is the newest ad coming out of the anti-piracy industry

So remember kids, Don't Copy That or power Ranger styled rappers will come and send the SWAT team to pick on your mom and send you to jail. Great way to advertise anti-piracy views!

Outdated, kinda offensive, and embarrassingly unhip, the clip has a zero percent chance of achieving its goal of deterring illegal downloads on campus. One young person I shared it with said the video made him want to go pirate something, anything, out of spite.

                                                                           - Nick Summers of NewsWeek

What's funny is some of the material in the video was. I mean Klingon's? I also love that the character is burning CD's. Wouldn't it be more relevant to show him use some sort of P2P software or something of that nature?

Spezify - a New way to Search

While Google and Bing are dueling each other in a battle of the search engines, Spezify has crept up to bring you something original and kooky to the search game. Compiling a sleuth of results from all over the net, Spez' offers you a literal collage of articles, tweets, images, and videos - all of which give you a bigger picture as to what you're looking for.

It's a bit hard to explain, but you'll get it when you do your first search. Don't Google it. Just Spezify.

Try it at Spezify.com

Google Search box Resized

I thought something felt off last night when from one search to the next I coulda sworn the size of my font had changed. I used Ctrl+Scroll up and down to adjust the size but I couldn't get it to where I had just seen it a moment ago.

Today, I'm more enlightened, and I'll let you avoid those moments of question as I did last night. Google resized their search box - making it bigger, and also upping the size on the font in your search.

New Internet Regulations in China

Anonymity is slowly being killed off in China. Which depending on your viewpoint isn't really such a bad thing.  A few Chinese websites are at the center of the this episode as they force people to register personal identification numbers before commenting on their sites. Any inappropriate comments are taken down by "internet police" and those responsible for those comments are susceptible to punishment by law.

Above is a graphic consisting of random facts about anonymity and censorship in the communist country. Pretty interesting stuff. If you live in a free nation, then be grateful - I need my lolcats.

iTunes 9 Connects With Facebook And Twitter

You will now be able to share albums you’re interested in over Facebook and Twitter. This is going to be a Huge step for Apple and may bring a lot more activity to Twitter and Facebook.

Since this is happening I feel that Twitter and Facebook are going to take advantage of this and maybe supply some nifty new features. Like a filter for twitter to see what is trending in iTunes or a mini-social group for Facebook. I have a feeling apple is going to have some really neat stuff for the iPhone and iPod's that relate to this feature.

And, of course, iTunes is now the biggest music retailer in the world, with over 100 million accounts and 8.5 billion songs downloaded, which means that even if a small fraction of iTunes users take advantage of the new sharing functionality, that will still represent a lot of sharing.

Note that this version of iTunes apparently does not have the social playlist features that had been rumored in the weeks leading up to today’s event.

Girls Update status rather than Call for help

Flickr by Bryan Veloso

Was the level of danger unknown to them, or was it simply just stupidity? Two girls, both preteens, got themselves stuck in a stormwater drain and were in quite a sticky situation on Sunday in Adelaide, Australia. The two then figured that they could update their status on Facebook and get help that way. Hopefully, someone would be online to read it [...]
