Microsoft’s OS, while a dominating piece of software in the work place and around the world, has been losing traction with Apple’s simplistic iOS mobile operating system. Though iOS focuses more on mobile devices (iPod, iPhone, iPad) its core values rely on hiding all the files, folders, and application jargon that confuse so many casual users. So to compete Microsoft has adapted the sleek Mertro UI style seen on Windows Phone 7 handsets, as well as also giving people the option to work within the normal desktop and icon’s interface we’ve known for so long. So if you’re interested, MS is offering the Developer’s Pre-Beta build up for download for anyone willing to take the early plunge.
What’s new
- Fast 8-second boot
- Metro UI style
- Apps
- Fast switching Windows 7 mode
- Start button
- New BSOD (blue screen of death)
- And much, much more
Lifehacker’s put up an 8 minute “everything you need to know” video about the new OS:
Warning
If you install the developer’s build you cannot have multiple instances of Windows running on a single machine. Windows 8 will overwrite your previous version of Windows on that PC, so proceed at your own risk. It also cannot be deleted or uninstalled unless you reinstall a previous version of Windows.
